Little One

It feels like it’s never been more difficult to sell your music in the UK. Giants of digital distribution rule the roost; live gigs have been necessarily cancelled; funding for the arts dwindles.. and yet, ‘we just have to keep making it’, said E.J Worley, aka Betty Blight, as we sat on the grassy slope of the Greenbank Cemetery to discuss the release of her new song ‘Little One’. It feels really exciting to be one of two women talking about growing an independent label. I really value all the men who’ve worked with me creatively over the years, but I can’t deny that the gender disparity in who’s pulling the – albeit short – strings in the independent music scene bothers me. This venture feels fresh and new. May its small shoots grow organically.

Julia describes her new song as a ‘lullaby’, one that she realised after a while was to her own ‘inner child’; making it all the more important to release it in the ‘right, nurturing place.’ Cannot wait to greet it.
