‘Land of Cats’ by Heather Holcroft-Pinn

Our first compilation incorporated music, images and poetry around the theme animals. We were thrilled to include this wonderfully surreal poem by Heather Holcroft-Pinn.

We’ve just put out a physical copy of the compilation including photos of the artwork and a handmade booklet. Available here. All proceeds to the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

Land of Cats

In dreams,

I fall into a land of cats,

who fill streets of empty houses.

Familiar silhouettes

in open windows,

the pavements strewn

with squirms of tails,

flicking away

from my foot-stumble.

Curving spines,

licking against shins;

and the noise –

each corner mewling,

soft-footed jumping,

landing, rain-patter about me.

They follow me

in a great tumult,

a sinew river, flowing evenly onwards.

Until I choose to lie down

and the cats pool about me,

and climb up to sit close,

filling the hollow between breast and rib;

their silken limbs, exploring, settling,

their fur claiming every inch

of body, buried in the warmth of bodies;

until it all fades darkly

into one dear and deafening purr.
